such devastation.

Ah jeez! There is so much pain and suffering in this world. A lot is caused by Mother Nature, whose nature is not all that benign and then humans must take responsibility for the rest. Will the latter's need for conquest and power and the exercise of hatred ever cease?

Powerful and very moving display!

It's a horrible world we live in.

I do so agree with Lowell, Jose, these are indeed so powerful and moving!!! I, too, frequently ask, when will hunger for power cease as well as the hatred that seems so prevalent everywhere these days. Thank you for sharing these.

Very powerful photos, the ones caused by nature are devastating the ones caused by man are murderous. What a strange world we live in. Diane

We attended one of these exhibits a few years ago at El Centro Borges in Buenos Aires. Parts of it were inspirational, others almost unbearable..

These images are so compelling!

JM, thank you for posting these. We never see photos like these from the American news media. These are too scary, too tragic, too mind-boggling. Our networks "dumb it down" because they don't think we can take it. But we must take it, we must begin to see the world as it is, or there's no progress to be had.

The top shot looks like a work of art rather than a photo.

I agree with Petra up there a few comments back. We are insulated from the realities of global and national atrocities and tragedies here in the USA. Photography is a powerful medium that can change public opinion. It has done so many times in the past when legislation has been passed based upon such photographic essays. Some photographers are heroic and provide a great service globally. Looks like your country honors that tradition.

Thanks for sharing.

God help us.
These are the pictures the media shields us from. Here in Israel if the TV news is going to show a bloody scene, they warn us first by saying that there will now be "a scene that is difficult to look at."

Dina, maybe that's a good method. At least they show them.
