The New Coach Museum

An abandoned compound, former property of the armed forces, was torn down to give place to a huge building which would cost a fortune. It all started at the beginning of 2008, before Portugal was bound by strictly imposed austerity measures as a result of the worst economic crisis ever. Needless to say how controversial this subject was over the last years!... But, finally, it seems doors will be open by the end of next month.

It happens quite often even here! Now that the money has been spent, at least try to open the museum....

Like night and day, the old and the new buildings.
It's lucky the big project was allowed to continue. Good luck

I'm hoping you will get some photos from inside once it's open again.

Quite a modern building! Nice that it was built through the crisis.

I'm surprised but glad that the project was completed in spite of the crisis! The old and the new!! Great! Have a wonderful new week, Jose!!

There must have been a lot of employment during the construction. One hopes!

What a contrast! The new building looks wonderful.

I want to see more! And I can imagine what an uproar must have ensued if this went ahead amidst an economic crisis! Yikes!

At least it's finally going to open, what a difference! I wish I knew what happened to Versailles' coach museum... It seems to have disappeared altogether. The coaches I mean, not the royal stables!

Re. pigeons, lol: they just trampled my snapdragons today. Cleaned the mess when I got home and have less snapdragons than yesterday. Even the upturned forks don't deter them anymore...

Quite a contrast between what was and what now is to come.

The new building has clean, straight and smooth lines.

In the end I suppose the museum will be much appreciated but I can understand why it was controversial.

Not my taste but glad the money is not going to be wasted. Diane
