Great contrast of shadow/light! The shadowy building makes me feel cold, I want to walk over to the sunny building :)

Nice contrast here. I am intrigued with the marble and the shadows. Trees??? can't tell. Good one today JM.
Hope you are having sunny weather and will have great New Year!!!! Thanks for all you visits and comments.

Very stark contrast. But I actually think they look good together!

Love the juxtaposition of the old and new. Beautiful shot.

The baron tree shadow on the modern building, initially gives the photo a menacing sensitivity. However, the older more mature structure glows with the support of the sun giving this us a feeling of warmth and hope.

Nice composition!
The new staying in the shadow for the old to stand out..
You are not suffering from the same cold front that is over France right now??
I wish you all the Best for this coming new year.

and Happy New Year to you:)

Yes, Virginia, what you see are tree shadows.

Marie -Noyale, I've just checked the weather for the next days and it seems the cold from France will not hit us... gladly!!! (17ºC two or three days next week :-) ) Hope it will not change...

Per, the sun is not behaving properly these days as we are also having cloudy skies and rain, all in the same day!... and it will continue like this for the next two weeks as far as I know!

It's very haunting with the tree shadow and overall works so well.

New and old often live in the same place in town ,sometimes for the best and sometimes for the worst ...It' doesn't look too bad on your shot ! Happy 2009 ;)

There could be a quasi-freudian explantion here, JM. Are you trying to tell us that modern architecture pales in comparison with the old masters?

Or it could just be that you are an extremely good photographer who has fastidiously composed this shot to show lighting contrasts.

Whichever, my wish is that you and yours have a peaceful and loving coming year.

My first thought was that the old was about to be crushed by the new. I hope not! Doesn't look like it will be in Oeiras, at any rate, given all the beautiful old buildings you've shown us, JM.
