Modern statue of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo (1699-1782), 1st Marquis of Pombal and 1st Count of Oeiras. He was King José I's PM and also the man responsible for the rebuilding of Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake. In recognition of his work, the king gave him a lot of land and a complex of new buildings including a palace, west of the city. This is how Oeiras was born 250 years ago.
You can see his other statue in Lisbon on this post.

Não faço ideia onde fica!
Fantástica escolha :)
Well, he did a good job and deserves nice statues. Even his shadow looks impressive. Nice one!
Perfect interpretation! Like your take on this statue! Cheers!
That is an amazingly strong shadow, JM. His profile is quite striking but I fear he has put on considerable weight.
A good reponse to the post ...
What a wonderfully swashbuckling shadow photo, and historically fascinating too!
A formidable chap
Good find. Well done.
A very clever shadow shot.
You caught that shadow just at the right time of day JM! Nice theme day post.
I forgot to mention that you were correct, I took that picture of the sundial at exactly 12 noon yesterday!
Interesting how the shadow seems to be striding forward more forcefully than the more erect posture of the statue.
That's one impressive shadow post! Good work, JM!
He casts a very intimidating figure! Very nice shadow photo.
A very nice photo. I really like the angle of the shot. Greetings from Cyprus
Like the way you gave us a slice of the real thing. I thought, "Capt. Hook" when I first looked at it. Great shadow entry today.

How appropriate that you chose his Lordship for Theme Day. I love the elongation of the shadow, JM. Have a great weekend.
This is a perfect shadow picture. Great color too.
Almost two different persons!!
But both of a very elegant man.
Love this image !!!

It is a terrific bold shadow.
I love this one. My favourite of the day. :)
Very nice . . . I like the way you composed this one for theme day . . . accent on the shadow.
That's a great shadow post tribute to your city!
way cool. it is as thought person is there larger than life with an aristocratic style and stance. you did a great job technically in capturing this shadow that looks so real and larger than life.
the shadow on the brick wall contrasts well! good one!
Amazing and great theme day post!
How fabulous! You've shown us part of your city and in shadow too. Superb. Such a strong image. Someone said swashbuckling - too right!
i think that i prefer the shadow than the model ;)
That is a really wicked shadow.
Somehow, the shadow looks even more regal than the statue! Fantastic shot for theme day!

Great shadow---He looks so much more imposing. I like it. MB
