Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (II)

Jeronimus Monastery is such a huge building that it's hard to get a proper photo of the whole thing, so here are some details (click to enlarge). Another couple of shots and information on this post.

The construction of the building dates from the late 15th/early 16th centuries.

It is just so amazing to see building so very old--still in use--and this 'baby' country wasn't even thought of in 1450. WOW!! MB

Yes, why are buildings often so difficult to decently photograph? ;-) This is beautifully intricate. But where's the blue sky?

Bellisimo! Due to an aesthetics class I'm taking, I can interpret why the building has 2 towers (influences from Cappadoccian monks, who basically put the basis to Catholic and Orthodox dogmas).

Intricate and ornate. When I look at buildings like this I wonder how they did it...how they had the time...and why are we not doing a better job with our moderm buildings!
