Our Lady of the Encarnation Church

Dating back to 1708, the church has been destroyed by the earthquake in 1755 and it was rebuilt 29 years later. Lisbon downtown.
Sorry about the (inevitable) tram cables... (Click to enlarge)

Such beautiful detail on this church. And the cross is particularly interesting.

I would never guess it is that old.
Looks solid now.

What? You didn't have the tram cables temporarily put down? ;-) Beautiful classic façade.

What's some silly tram cables when you have a gorgeous shot like this. Hard to imagine rebuilding or even BUILDING and structure like this inthe 1700's!

One of the churches in Lisbon still show the cracks from the earthquake, is it this one? I guess it's a different one. Nice picture of Belem's Marina too!
God bless you!

I just viewed a church on Greensboro Daily Photo. What a contrast! Looks like a gorgeous structure...

Re: Tram cables. Photoshop will do ya...but it takes way too much time!

There is quite a lot of detail on the front of this church. I especially like the curly pillar tops below the roof line.

A compenastion for the disadvantage of tram cables ... are the trams! What would Lisbon be without trams? :-)

Your shots of buildings are always so crisp and detailed ... a pleasure to view.

How wonderful it was rebuilt in an old style. So many cities would have replaced it with something practical rather than beautiful

I didn't at all get annoyed by the very few tram cables, living in India :)

The church looks so nice, and what an ancient background.
