Tiled building

One of many (early 19th century) at Oeiras downtown.

Those who enjoy portuguese tiles might like to check the National Tile Museum housed in a convent founded in 1509. Here is the site.

The tile is so unique. I wonder why it isn't more universally used?

the tile looks very different on concrete blocks, but the tile is very pretty & I like that 2nd floor balcony.

I'm off to check out the Tile Museum now

Beautiful tile work. You have to enlarge the photo to see the detail.

I love the way the windows work so harmoniously with the tile. Beautifully designed, wonderfully captured. Thanks, JM.

Wonderful!. Love the azulejos and have visited the museum. How could they put ad signs and some utilities box on a building like this?

1509? Wow, that is pretty historic! :) It seems they're about to cover the rest of the facade with tiles? Guess it would also look nice!
God bless you!

You have many tiled buildings, benches, walls, etc., in Oeiras. But this example, I think, is especially attractive. Rich and lush looking!

You have some of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen. I like the angle of the photo too, how it fills the 'frame'

Magnificent! And it's being used as an office building? I like how the sign is small and discreet.

I can't get over the number of tiled buildings you show ... is it reserved to old buildings only ... they must be very tedious to do.

Beautiful Portuguese building. Although, I think it could have done without the AXA signs.
