Carcavelos Beach yesterday afternoon

Your photo illustrates one of the sometimes overlooked aspects of large storms -- the destruction of trees. I have been to Cayman and Cozumel during the year after major hurricanes came through. Many of the buildings had been repaired, but the trees were brown and dead due to the influx of salt water and be battering of high winds.

This is so terrible and incredible. Poor western Europe. Poor families of the dead.

What is going ON with the weather this year??

Hmmmm... I haven't had a chance to go see the old, old trees that came down in the palace grounds because they are closed. Isn't it horrible to die drowned in your own bedroom like so many people did in the west of France?

We were reading about the storm and I thought of you immediately as Portugal was mentioned as one of the places hit hard.

They're such terrible things...it sounded very much like one of our hurricanes!

Hope that all is well with you and your family!

This weekend here in Luxembourg there were some frightening winds blowing but not nearly as harsh as in the places you mention... Impressive photo...
God bless you!

JM, I"m so sorry. I really didn't know. My TV is not with us anymore and I'm not up with the news like I normally am. It's a beautiful, poignant memorial. I know something about this, we lost everything in Hurricane Ivan and there were some lives lost as well. I hope a successful recovery effort is taking place.
