Our visit to Lisbon was too short to go to the Coach Museum. Thank you for showing us what we missed. The building competes with the coaches for attention.

I was interested in your comment about our Easter Island on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site. It is a long way to get there. It is a very isolated spot

I was also going to thank you for showing the museum that I decided to skip last week. I didn't expect the coaches to be so decorated.

So many old carriages, so well preserved.

I must ask this question and it will probably sound stupid to you or other people who read it.

The question is that these kinds of things and elegant coaches like these cost a ton of money even in their day.

I wonder where the the people get the money to spend on things like these royal coaches. ???

Some countries, I know, used the riches they took from nations they captured and then plundered. And a lot of gold left the Americas bound for Spain and Portugal. Maybe some of those coaches are lined with gold from America.

It would be most interesting to find out.

Wow! Sometimes when I look at the photos from around the world, I am overcome by the amount of wealth and artistry that has been accumulated over the centuries.

Hi JM...what marvelous photos - so sharp and colorful as usual. Don't you wonder what makes some people "royal" and the rest of us not? But from the looks of it they did ride in comfort.

Re my question/your response: The template in question allows all the widgets. I just can't seem to find the one that will do what you do with your "My Other Blogs" gadget.

Where did yours come from? Is it one of the regular Blogger gadgets?

I thought Queen Elizabeth had the biggest collection of elaborate coaches. I was wrong. These are real beauties.

They just are not as artistic as they used to be. Could you imagine how amazing a cadillac would look with all the same elaborate, intricate handywork on it, like these coaches? It would be amazing.
Great pictures JM.

As for black swans, I have to say that I was thinking about N. Portman and this amazing film while choosing photos to my blog:)

Your photos are fantastic as always and the coaches are stunning! Wow! That's definitely the way to ride around the city -- slower than cars, but a lot more beautiful! Awesome! Thanks for the tour, JM!!

With coaches this elaborate, I can imagine the clothes their owners wore at the time! The museum building certainly wasn't built in a day, either. I really like the composition of your first image, JM.

I sadly missed this... Gorgeous coaches, but of all things my eye was caught by the tiles of the floor!

I'd give anything to ride in such a fantastic royal coach! Guess I'd have to settle with looking at them and not touching them for a museum ticket fee. Magnificent room which houses them!

Oh my they are just so beautiful. The intricate designs and of course the gold stuff. I would love to be a 'royal' just for a short time to ride in one of these carriages. Thanks for showing them. MB

I'm amazed by the magnificence of both the coaches and buildings. I'm glad I have visited Europe in the past otherwise I would find images like this quite unreal.

Gosh, that is a surprise.
I thought it was only the Queen and her husband in London, who had vehicles like this.
Impressive collection in an impressive place!
