Sintra National Palace

The palace was built on the residence of the former Muslim walis (12th century). Many alterations took place over the centuries and in 1755 it was severely damaged by the Lisbon Earthquake. However, it was rebuilt "in the old manner" but during the 19th and the 20th centuries went through numerous works which definitely changed some parts of it.

What a fantastic, historic palace! I just wonder what it looks like inside....
That suspended concrete slap yesterday was an engineering wonder!

it is massive! The picture was taken from above and gives us a birds eye view. Very nice.

Magnificent architecture of moorish influence. The chimneys remind me of the Moroccan ceramic tagines. Visit Sintra again!!!

The first word that came to mind was "light"! The light is fantastic. Second word coming to mind was "massive." The structure seems to go on and on. Rather a mix of shapes and styles, but the flow is pretty good. I like it.

The photo is superb.

I don't know what's going on with that thumbnail, JM. That one seems to be the only one! Obviously, Blogger has some kind of a problem...none of them showed up at all for a week or two as you know...

Sorry. I'd fix it if I could...

I like those pointy towers ... but not as chimneys.

Beautiful architecture! I like how they rebuilt it "in the old manner." So much more of the history is preserved that way :-D
