This reservoir, no longer in use, was built in 1856 to supply water to the city of Lisbon. It's one of the three buildings incorporated in the Water Museum and it's located right under the pond on the previous post.
This place must be wonderful to visit. I love the arches, the stonework and the light. You captured them nicely. It is good that the building has been preserved.
What an interesting place to explore. I kept staring at the photos trying to understand where the light is coming from. It looks like illuminated glass blocks on the floor.

This is all very exciting--what is was, what they have done with it.

How very cool! And I'll bet it was somewhat cool down there. Looks to be in pretty good shape for being so old.
Wonder why they call it the "Patriarcal Reservoir"? 'Cause it's the "father" of all reservoirs? :-)
Your photos are wonderful...I especially the colors and feeling of depth in the first one.
High arches always look elegant, but that floor is really something else! (Do you have a new camera or lens, JM?)
Remarkable!!!
What great photos JM, it looks very cool down there, was it actually so?
Magnifique endroit, très bien restauré me semble-t-il. Il donne envie d'y aller - souvent !
