A common view when a city sits on seven hills.
Rossio Square, Lisbon
The ruins of the Carmo Convent stand right above the building that's being restored. The convent was built in 1389 and partially destroyed by the Great Earthquake in 1755. It currently houses an archaeological museum.

belle composition avec la fontaine en premier plan. c'est une bonne chose cette renovation
Very nicely composed JM, lovely fountain in foreground, and the ruins of the convent look exactly like the kind of place that would be excellent to explore!!
this is such a rich image, filled with details to study. you're right about the interesting juxtapositions...this image whisks us across centuries.
A beautiful view. You make your city so attractive. I really hope to visit one day. :)
wow, 1389...such a rich history your city has!!
I love this photo. I love seeing such varied architecture is such close proximity. It makes for interesting skylines and interesting photographs.
Marvelous capture as always, JM! I, too, love the varied architecture and the fountain is beautiful! Always enjoy the history you include! Thank you! Hope you have a wonderful evening and a great week!

Lol... yes, okay, it's... different but oh what a lovely photo with soooo much to look at!
Acho linda as fontes. Se morasse em uma casa teria uma com certeza.
Great composition and each layer is in perfect focus with a treat for the eyes. The contrast of the textures of the fountain with its water is refreshing.

So much history in this pic!
Wow, it's just amazing, all that in one shot!
Wonderful image JM.
It's a beautiful history you are sharing.
Wonderful view! It seems like yesterday, but it has been so many, too many years!
It's wonderful. So much to look at. 1389 wow! I'd love to step inside the archaeological museum!
A visual treat! I can understand why they never restored the convent having been built so long ago.
What a wild mix of structures and styles and angles and colors. I love it!
You always find just the right spot for the photo!
Gosto da composição, só no enquadramento é que acho que devias ter dado mais pouquinho do lado direito para a fonte não ficar colada ao final da foto.
Abraço
I love the perspective and composition of this photo, playing with the depth to capture the fountain first
It must be good feeling to be witnessing so many pieces of history in front of you ! thanks ...
Another one of your WOW shots. So beautiful!
What a place and what an image. There is so much to see in this picture. Wonderful. JM. The fountain is big and beautiful, and nearly every building in the scene has a different architectural style.
This is a really beautiful cityscape JM -- and I have fallen behind on reading blogs while we were on our roadtrip, and so I just spent a lovely few minutes scrolling down a ways -- all of your posts are so interesting and I enjoy the variety (even the screen shot of the bond downgrade, funny -- but I learned something.
Your photos are (well, not that one) but all the rest -- are just absolutely lovely! Thanks.
Love the architectural variety stuffed in cheek by jowl in the city center.
A beautiful day in Lisbon!
A fonte é super graciosa, e sua foto está perfeita, com lindo sol e aprecio muito essa composição, esse tipo de angulo!
