Neat! I do not recall hearing the term 'Pillory', so I looked it up. Interesting crime deterrent. I have the same question as Dina.

I think it is especially nice the way the city fathers go all out with monuments and statuary! It adds so much to a city! This is a beautiful and intricate design - a joy to look at!

JM I didn't know what a Pillory was so looked it up. Was this pillory used for punishment or is purely ornamental?

The pillory of Oeiras was the last to be erected in the country, as others, emblem and symbol of municipal autonomy, achieved in 1759 with the creation of village and county.
