I think it is especially nice the way the city fathers go all out with monuments and statuary! It adds so much to a city! This is a beautiful and intricate design - a joy to look at!
The pillory of Oeiras was the last to be erected in the country, as others, emblem and symbol of municipal autonomy, achieved in 1759 with the creation of village and county.

Gorgeous ornamentation...
Impressive. I wonder what effect the pillory punishment would have on today's offenders.
vraiment tres beau
That fountain has some royal touches.
Neat! I do not recall hearing the term 'Pillory', so I looked it up. Interesting crime deterrent. I have the same question as Dina.
An a interesting mix. Love that sky!

JM I didn't know what a Pillory was so looked it up. Was this pillory used for punishment or is purely ornamental?

Aha, thanks for the added explanation.

I had the same question as Joan, so I'm glad I spotted your answer. A royal fountain.
