The 1755 earthquake really changed really changed everything for your city JM, you have to wonder how it would look today if the quake hadn't happened.

I too am curious about the bars on the window. They seem odd unless they're somehow bracing it? It's quite an impressive door.
I would guess the Francophones were Francophiles. Naturally.
Is there still a large Francophone Catholic community in Lisbon?
Hard to believe anything has been around since 1522. I'm assuming this doorway was reconstructed following the earthquake. Quite impressive.
