Those tiles really catch your attention; the details in the ironwork is pretty amazing.

Pretty but I'd not like a lit street lamp outside my window.

Incredible! I am amazed every time I see tiles displayed in so many different ways.

You've covered several "themes" here - the lamp and its shadow, those wonderful tiles, the balconies, the wearing-down building itself. Nicely done!

Lots of visual interest in this shot! I wonder, JM: is this beautiful tile mostly on older buildings or are more modern ones sometimes tiled, too? I'm guessing they aren't.

@Kay: You are right, modern buildings aren't tiled.

Ornate tiles and ornate ironwork. Pretty amazing stuff, JM.

The remarkable thing about this is not so much the lamp (although it is a beautiful decoration) but the wall. Where else in the world would you find such beauty on the outside rather than the interior?

It is all so wonderful.

Gorgeous light and shadow, and of course those marvelous tiles! (I'm wondering if you can find especially amazing ones in Alfama because it wasn't as utterly destroyed by the earthquake?)
