@Arija: This was the location of the Royal Ribeira Palace until it was destroyed by the great 1755 Lisbon Earthquake. When the city was rebuilt, the symmetrical buildings of this huge square were filled with government bureaus that regulated customs and port activities. Now these buildings house main offices of several ministries.

That interior takes my breath away. What an amazing way to highlight the groin vaults, so modern and yet so classic.

It's a gorgeous building from any angle! And I love the "Wonder Room." I'm assuming the latest and greatest fashions are on display here for sale to the general public? What great columns!

I love the simplicity of this interior. I know it is complex but it is not as opulent like so many of the interiors in your country.
