Rua das Alcássimas

This is supposed to be the oldest street in Oeiras (rua = street). There are some nice restored houses, but I've chosen these as I think they show the real atmosphere of the place.

Much character in this street. I hope the houses get restored though — seems like such a loss of history if they're just left to deteriorate.

I really like these old, forgotten streets. But never in my city :/ Hmm...

Wow. It's hard to believe there are actually beautiful spots like this in the world. Such a contrast to anything I ever see in the midwest. Haunting shots. Absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks for showing us this 'oldest street.' The photos are wonderful and certainly capture the atmosphere of this place. I feel like I'm there.

These are truly wonderful. This really does represent the real area. I could wander round here virtually and in the flesh all day.

Great shots. These lovely old streets have a lot of character and stories to tell.I love the weathered look, although I agree with Hilda too. Some of it needs to be restored and saved from the effects of time.

Over here Rua is the Maori word for the number 2.

Tahi, Rua, Toru... 123

Beautiful. Old buildings are a weakness of mine. I just adore them.

Nicely framed photos.

This somehow reminds me of Venice: buildings often look like needing some restoring, but when you get inside, you can find some fantastic apartments!

Hi Jm - have had server problems so haven't be able to visit much.

I so love these old buildings. I'm a sucker for original architecture. Would love to see inside them.
