Cerca Moura (Moorish Wall)

Alfama, Lisbon

Lisbon was conquered to the Moors in 1147. This is the best preserved part of what was then a Moorish city defensive wall.

It's certainly built like a fortress wall.

I remember some Moorish castle or wall near Sintra, but I am not sure about it...

This Moorish Wall certainly looks in good shape considering its age. It was probably an effective deterrent, also, 'cause it would be hard to scale those walls.

Looks like a sunny day. Hope you received some warmth, too!

The shadows across this wall are a nice touch. It's amazing to me that something like this is still standing after so many years and earthquakes. . .

I can't get over all of the beautiful things in your city.

I love more architecture. The one you can see aswell in Andalousia.
Dans Lisbonne, si je me rappelle bien, il y a des vestiges d'autres envahisseurs, comme les Wisigoth, pas vrais ?

@Beatrice: Yes, it's true. A couple of years ago they found a Visigothic necropolis right in the middle of a street at Cascais: http://oeirasdailyphoto.blogspot.pt/2009/03/bones-under-your-feet.html

Fascinating to think that wall has been standing in that spot for so long JM.
